Ashoka Pillar on the obverse has been replaced by Gandhi's face with 'महात्मा गांधी','MAHATMA GANDHI' '1869-1948' text both in Hindi and English. Vertical '1' in the top corners. Signed by 'Special Secretary, Ministry of Finance' in English. The black serial number on the bottom left. Relief underprint of 'एक रुपया' (in Hindi) beneath Serial number and 'ONE RUPEE' in English beneath Signature. 

Reverse: 'भारत' (in Hindi) above and 'GOVERNMENT OF INDIA' below on top centre. 'भारत एक रुपया' INDIA ONE RUPEE' on a coin with Ashoka Pillar.
